1064 When people bow down in respect, is this allowed in Islam?
To show respect to a person is permissible within the boundaries of Islamic Shariah. However the acts of respect should not be such which are those reflective of the worship i.e. in Salah (Sajda, Ruku) and so on.

The Blessed Companions (R.A) of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) use to stand up to greet the arrival of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W), elders and learned personalities amongst them; therefore to stand up for a person or to lean slightly forward but not bow as one would in prayer is therefore permissible.
