Liar Liar – Path to Fire

Nowadays lying is considered to be the norm. A knock at the door and we ask our children to say that dad is not at home; A phone call and we say to our children to say mum is busy in the kitchen and shall call you later (so as not to disturb our TV dramas/relaxation time); Calling work and pretending to be sick (so we can go somewhere). These are just a few examples of the lies we speak in our daily lives.

Shaitaan pushes us to lie and then think ‘oh it was just a little white lie’ so we don’t feel bad about it. We believe that it’s no big deal. Then we lie again and again, until it develops into a habit.

Imam Malik (R.A) stated that Hazrat Abdullah ibn Masud (R.A) would say, “Each time someone lies a black spot appears on his heart until his whole heart becomes black and he is written with Allah as a liar.

Once a person starts to make false statements, he continues this bad habit to such a state that he fails to differentiate between what is true and what is fabrication. Ultimately being labelled as a Liar, leading to his character being tarnished. We are all well aware of the saying: The boy who cried wolf.

It is mentioned in AHadith that Holy Prophet (S.A.W) has said; Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to paradise. A man keeps on telling the truth until he becomes a truthful person. Falsehood leads to wickedness/ evil-doing, and wickedness leads to the Hell fire. A man may keep on telling lies till he is written before Allah, as a liar.

In the Holy Quran it mentions: “Shall I tell you upon whom the Satans descend? They descend on every lying sinner (who weaves false allegations), who pour (into their ears) hearsay and most of them are liars”. (Irfan–ul-Quran, Surah Al-Shu’ara (26), Ayah 221-223)

May Allah (S.W.T) give us the ability to understand the severity of such sin and the strength to refrain from it. (Ameen)
