Hazrat Anas Bin An-Nadr (R.A)

Hazrat Anas bin An-Nadr (R.A) was the uncle of Hazrat Anas bin Malik (R.A). Hazrat Anas bin Malik (R.A) narrates: “My uncle Anas bin An-Nadr (R.A) was absent from the Battle of Badr. He said, ‘O Allah's Apostle! (S.A.W) I was absent from the first battle you fought against the Kuffaar; (By Allah) if Allah gives me a chance to fight the Kuffaar, no doubt, Allah (S.W.T) will see how (bravely) I will fight.’”

On the day of the Battle of Uhud, when the Muslims turned their backs and fled, he said, “O Allah! I apologise to You for what these (i.e. his Companions) have done, and I denounce what these (i.e. the pagans) have done.”

During the battle I noticed some Muhajireen and Ansar who were very distraught. Upon my query they told me that Rasoolullah (S.A.W) had been Shaheed. Hazrat Anas bin An-Nadr (R.A) then said “if truly Rasoolullah (S.A.W) has become Shaheed, then what is life without him? Come, let us go into battle to join Rasoolullah (S.A.W) in Martyrdom.”

He moved ahead from there and happened to meet Hazrat Sa’d bin Muaaz (R.A), who said, “‘O Anas! I am with you’. Then He (R.A) penetrated into the files of the Kuffaar waving his sword he exclaimed: I am feeling fragrance of the Paradise. I swear by the Lord of An-Nadr! I am feeling the fragrance of Paradise from the side of Mount Uhud.”

He (R.A) engaged himself in fighting against the enemies until he became Shaheed. Hazrat Anas bin Malik (R.A) says, “We found more than eighty wounds by swords and arrows on his body.” Hazrat Anas bin An-Nadr (R.A)’s body was mutilated so badly that none except his sister could recognise him by his fingers.

Hazrat Anas bin Malik (R.A) states, “We used to think that the following Verse was revealed concerning him and other men of his sort: ‘Among the believers (a great number of) men proved true what covenant they made with Allah (S.W.T) .......’” (Surah Al-Ahzab , Ayah 23) (Sahih Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 52, Number 61)
