The Blessed Wives of Holy Prophet (S.A.W)

Sayyidah Zainab bin Khuzaimah (R.A)

Hazrat e Sayyidah Zainab bint Khuzaimah's (R.A) title was Ummul Masaakeen (the Mother of Orphans) as she used to feed orphans and the poor during the Period of Ignorance. Hazrat e Sayyidah Zainab bint Khuzaimah (R.A) was first married to Hazrat Abdullah bin Jahsh (R.A), but later married Rasoolullah (S.A.W) after becoming a widow following the martyrdom of her husband in the Battle of Uhud in 3 AH.

Spending only 2 or 3 months alive after her Nikaah to the Holy Prophet (S.A.W), she passed away at the age of 30 in Rabi-ul-Aakhir (Rabi ul-Thani) 4 AH and was buried in Jannatul Baqi.

Hazrat e Sayyidah Zainab (R.A) was also the step sister of Ummul Mu'mineen, Hazrat e Sayyidah Maimoonah (R.A) from her mother's side. (Zarqaani, Vol. 3).

Sayyidah Maimoonah (R.A)

The father of Hazrat e Sayyidah Maimoonah (R.A) was Haarith bin Hazm, and her mother Hind bin Auf. Her original name was 'Barah', which was later changed by the Prophet (S.A.W) to 'Maimoonah' (one who gives barakat).

She was initially married to Abu Rahm bin Abdul Uzza but became a widow in 7 AH at the time when the Prophet (S.A.W) performed Umratul Qadhaa in Makkah Shareef. Hazrat Abbas (R.A) talked about her to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (S.A.W), after which He (S.A.W) married her.

Hazrat e Sayyidah Maimoonah (R.A) had four blood sisters, and four other sisters in relation to her mother.

It has been said about Hazrat e Sayyidah Maimoonah’s (R.A) mother, that she was the most fortunate woman in relation to son in laws. Those being, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (S.A.W), Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique, Hazrat Ali, Hazrat Hamza, Hazrat Abbas and Hazrat Shadaad bin Al-Haad (R.A).

Hazrat e Sayyidah Maimoonah (R.A) has narrated a total of 76 Ahadith, of which 7 are narrated by both Imam Bukhari and Muslim in their respective books. The others are recorded in other books of Hadith.

Hazrat e Sayyidah Maimoonah (R.A) was the last of the Azwaaj e Mutaharaat to be married to the Holy Prophet (S.A.W). Historians are divided regarding the year in which she passed away, though 51 AH is famously known as the year of her demise, which took place at Sarif. The very place where she had become a part of the Prophet's (S.A.W) Azwaaj e Mutaharaat.

Her nephew, Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (R.A), was present at the time of her passing away, and was also the individual who performed her Janazah Salah and laid her in her blessed grave.
