Ramadan 2010 (Pearls of Light)

Sayyidah Khadija (R.A)

Hazrat e Sayyidah Khadija (R.A) was the first wife of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W). Her (R.A) father's name was Khuwailad and mother’s name was Fathima bint Zaaidah.

Hazrat e Sayyidah Khadija (R.A) belonged to a powerful, rich and respected family of the Quraish tribe and was given the title of Taahira (Pure chaste) by the people of Makkah due to her modesty and piety. Seeing the blessed manners and features of Rasoolullah (S.A.W), she sent a proposal of marriage which was accepted.

Allama ibn Atheer (R.A) and Imam Zahabi (R.A) both state that; it's the consensus of the Ummah that Hazrat e Khadija (R.A) was the first person to accept Islam and to offer support to Holy Prophet (S.A.W), when He (S.A.W) had been opposed by all people in the beginning of Islam.

This contribution of Hers is unfound in any other Azwaaje Mutaharaat (blessed wives of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W)). It is for this reason that Imaam Waliyudeen Iraqi (R.A) has stated that the preferred and correct opinion regarding Hazrat e Sayyidah Khadija (R.A) is that she is the most excellent of all the Ummahaatul Mu'mineen (Mothers of the Believers).

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (R.A) narrates that, Once Hazrat Jibraeel (A.S) came to the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) and said, "O’ Muhammad (S.A.W)! Soon Khadija (R.A) shall come to you with a bowl of food. Give her my salaam and that of her Creator. Give her the glad tidings of a house made of pearls for her in Jannah (Paradise), free from disturbance and difficulties." (Bukhari Sharif, Vol. 1, Pg.539)

Once after hearing much praise of Hazrat e Sayyidah Khadija (R.A) by the Holy Prophet (S.A.W), Hazrat e Sayyidah Aisha (R.A) said in envy, “Allah (S.W.T) has now granted you a better wife!", to which He (S.A.W) replied, "No! Oath on Allah (S.W.T)! I do not have a wife more excellent than Khadija (R.A), she was the person who believed in me, had faith and gave me her wealth when people made me to be a liar and madman, and wouldn't give me anything. Khadija (R.A) was also the mother of my children.” (Zarqaani, Vol. 3, Pg. 224)

Hazrat e Sayyidah Aisha (R.A) also states, "The person I was envious of most from all the Azwaaje-Mutaharaat was Hazrat e Khadija (R.A), even though I had not seen her. The reason for this was that Rasoolullah (S.A.W) would constantly praise and remember her, and whenever He (S.A.W) slaughtered an animal, He would send some meat to some of her (R.A)’s friends." (Bukhari Sharif, Vol. 1,Pg. 539)

Hazrat e Sayyidah Khadija (R.A) was blessed with serving the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) for a period of 25 years, and passed away in Makkah Shareef at the age of 65 during Ramadan, three years before the Hijrat (Migration to Madina Shareef).

She was laid to rest in Jannatul Ma'la (Graveyard in Makkah Shareef). The Prophet (S.A.W) himself went into her grave and placed her in it. No Janazah Salah had been performed for her as it had not been commanded in the Shariah at that time.
