Ramadan 2010 (Pearls of Light)

The Holy Prophet's (S.A.W) Mubarak Body is Kissed

The Battle of Badr was fought on the 17 of Ramadan 2AH (2nd Hjra year in the Islamic Calendar). Badr is a location 130 km south west of Madina Shareef (Saudi Arabia).

The capacity of Muslims was less than one third of that of the enemy. Number of Muslims totalled to only 313, whereas the enemy were well over a 1000 and much better equipped and prepared.

Rasoolullah (S.A.W) ordered the formation of lines of Mujahideen (soldiers that fight for the cause of Allah (S.W.T)). With stick in His hand, He (S.A.W) straightened the lines of Mujahideen in making them uniform, ordering them not to make any noise or cause disruption but to be occupied in the remembrance of Allah (S.W.T).

While Rasoolullah (S.A.W) was straightening the battle lines with His (S.A.W) walking stick. Holy Prophet (S.A.W) tapped the stomach of Hazrat Sawad Ansaari (R.A) (in order to gesture him back into line) and said, “Sawad stand straight.”

He replied, “Ya Rasoolullah (S.A.W), I seek recompense for you hitting me with a stick”, upon which the Beloved Prophet (S.A.W) immediately removed His blessed shirt and said, “My back is present, you may pick up my walking stick and hit me in compensation.”

The Companion (R.A) then rushed to the Beloved Prophet (S.A.W), kissed His (S.A.W) blessed body and embraced Him (S.A.W). After being asked about this, he replied, “Ya Rasoolullah (S.A.W), while standing in the battle line I began to think of the proximity of death, and it was my wish that I embrace you before it.”

Our Beloved Prophet (S.A.W) praised the love of Hazrat Sawad (R.A) and made Dua for barkat and goodness for him.

The Companion then excused the compensation, whilst the other Sahabah Ikraam (R.A) simply stared in astonishment at his love for the Holy Prophet (S.A.W). (Seerat ibn Hishaam, Vol. 2, Pg. 626, Ghazwah of Badr)
